Maturity Model
Initiate, Challenger, Mastery: scored per capability, so the target is agreed before work starts.
- 03 · MasteryStrategic integration & innovation
- 02 · ChallengerOptimisation & standardisation
- 01 · InitiateEstablishing the foundation
At a glance
NGT scores maturity on three levels: Initiate, Challenger and Mastery. Each capability reads them through its own lens, and the score sets the target level the rest of the engagement works towards.
Initiate, Challenger and Mastery describe every capability in the same words, so leads can compare notes.
The target level is agreed with you. Implementation is finished when that level is reached.
DevSecOps, platform engineering, DataOps and AI-assisted engineering each have their own view of the levels.

In the Assessment, NGT scores the current level and agrees the target with you. Implementation is done when the system reaches it.

Frequently asked questions
What customers ask first.
They are NGT's own levels from its service offering: Initiate, Challenger and Mastery.
Capability views build on known models where they fit, such as Puppet's five stages of DevOps evolution.
No. Each capability and area is scored on its own, and the target is agreed area by area.
It depends on scope; the plan is made after the MVP or PoC. As a reference, NGT plans a move to platform teams over 6–12 months, not as a big bang.
NGT architects and consultants, with your leads in the room. The target level is your decision.
For AI in the software lifecycle: three levels, from AI-assisted to AI-orchestrated. At the top, approval is policy-gated with audit, and a person stays accountable.
